Cuenca is consolidating itself as one of the strategic hubs of the automotive sector in Ecuador. In this context, GWM (Great Wall Motors), together with Grupo Ambacar, inaugurated its new comprehensive dealership in the Azuayan capital, strengthening its presence in the Austro region amid historic growth for the brand.
Growth that outperforms the market
While the Ecuadorian automotive industry grew 15%% in 2025, GWM registró un incremento del 86% frente al año anterior, positioning itself as the fourth-largest brand in the country. This growth was mainly driven by high demand for pickup trucks and SUVs.
In total, the brand sold over 5,500 units nationwide, reflecting a clear consumer preference for vehicles that combine technology, power, and value.

“This growth responds to a strategy focused on product, support, and a clear understanding of the Ecuadorian consumer,” highlighted Valeska Álvarez, GWM Brand Manager at Ambacar.
The South, key in GWM's expansion
GWM's performance in the Austro region has been even more outstanding than the national average. While the market in this area grew by 27%, the brand achieved growth of 200%, positioning itself as the second in sales in this region.
One of the main drivers has been the pickup truck line, especially the POER, which registered 283%growth, consolidating itself as one of the most competitive models in the segment.
